In September 2013, our Principal and Licensee Pieter Rudolphy rode his bike from Cairns to Cooktown as part of the annual Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation Cardiac Challenge fund raising event.
The beneficiary of the bike ride is the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation who specifically direct the funds towards cardiac equipment and services. One in three of us is likely to require cardiac services during their lifetime so ultimately you, a family member or someone you know will benefit.
Fundraising from this event helps grow the services of the Cardiology Department at Cairns Base Hospital over-and-above Queensland Health’s expenditure to ensure availability of superior cardiac services in the Far North.
Cardiac facilities are improving and have expanded to include a dedicated Cardiac Cath Lab allowing angioplasty procedures to be performed in Cairns rather patients having to travel away. There is also now an additional Cardiologist, as well as a Paediatric Cardiologist caring for children with heart conditions.
Since the first ride in 2007, over $1.7 million in additional funds have been raised to help improve Cardiac Service in Far North Queensland.
